Pre-Wedding Photography (Part 2)

The wedding is finally over and now only I have the time to blog about the preparations. Better be late than never, right? Hahaha. Many that have seen my prewedding pictures came asking me about it. Ok, I shall talk about it here.

JW and I signed up for a customised prewedding package with Memories Bridal Gallery (MBG) during a bridal fair held in Tawau back in 2012. The package we took wasn't dead cheap (it's a 5-figure value) but definitely cheaper than those high end galleries in KL.

The photo shooting took place in early April this year. We took a week off and stayed in Masada Backpaker for the entire week. A favourite among local and foreign backpackers, this humble lodge is clean, comfy and definitely value for money.

Gowns selection and fitting were done on the day before the photoshooting. Not much gowns for my petite size but definitely enough to spend the entire afternoon in the fitting room. Haha. It took me almost 4 hours to choose 8 gowns for the photoshooting, 3 gowns for the wedding day and a few matching suits for JW. JW wore his own attire for most of shooting as the cutting of the suits from the gallery doesn't fit his small frame nicely.

My make up artist for the entire 4 days was Esther Chong from MBG. Being fussy as usual, I highlighted to her the do's and don'ts styles. She was attentive, gentle, polite and did a fantastic job for both make up and hair. She even tried a few new hairdos on me...and they turned out spectacular!!

A lot of people told us that the outdoor photo shooting would be very tiring..and what more, 4-days stretch! To be honest, JW and I did not find it tiring. In fact, it was very fun! YES ! FUN!! The only boring part was the looonnng journey through Sabah's bumpy roads.

The photo shooting was surprisingly quick. Our photographer, Lucas Ting, was very efficient and snapped pretty fast. A few clicks and he is done for the day. JW and I were initially sceptical that the photos will turn out beautiful as the photographer seemed very relax and nonchalant. JW requested to see some of the pictures while waiting for my hair change and guess what?? JW was so amazed with the photos. He told me that the photos don't even need much editing. Haih...but I didn't get to see any of the photos throughout the shooting, as the photographer wanted to keep it as a surprise for me.

For Day 1, we went up to Kundasang War Memorial and Desa Cow Farm. There were intermittent drizzles when we arrived and the mount was partially covered by the thick clouds. Lucas suggested some poses on the big rocks. Without hesitation, I climbed all up in the heavy gown, barefoot. Now you would understand why I call this fun. Haha

This is NOT effect of photoshop!
Mount Kinabalu is just right behind

Day 2 was the most relaxing as the shooting was done just around the studio and KK Town (Sabah Air Aviation, Tanjung Aru, Jesselton Point). Day 3 shooting was around Penampang town (St. Aloysius' Church and Babagon). Shooting in Sungai Moyog of Babagon was the most physically challenging as I need to stabilize myself on the slippery rocks while holding tightly to the train of my gown so that the dress don't get drifted away by the strong gush of river water. It was also raining then. Basically, we got ourselves wet from top to bottom. wooohooo!!! How fun!!

It ain't easy for a pose like this

Wet top to bottom..Photographer and makeup artist were also drenched in rain :)

Day 4 shooting was at Bunga Raya Island Resort, a luxurious resort in Gaya Island. We were so blessed to have professional videographer Bryan Kujuo, to film a short MV for us at no extra cost. Thanks to MBG for the special arrangement! Weather was good throughout the day and this place is amazingly beautiful. Indeed heaven on earth!

The prewedding package that we signed up includes a complimentary 2 Days 1 Night stay at the sister resort, Gayana Eco Resort. We stayed in Lagoon Villa; the room was approximately 700sq feet with private balcony and 32" LCD TV and DVD system. This posh hotel is slightly cheaper than Bunga Raya Island Resort and is definitely the best water villa I have ever stayed!!

Day 5 was photo viewing and selection. We did not expect almost 500 shots from Lucas as he didn't seem to have click much on the camera button. All the pictures are beautiful and unique on their own. I admit that it was very difficult to select only 189 shots for the album!!

JW is very detailed when it comes to photography. We did specifically note to MBG the frames, album layouts and finishings wanted...yet there were some unexpected errors in the large print photos (framed photo given instead of canvas print) and printed albums (wrong finishing by printing company). Luckily, Ally, the manager of MBG, took prompt action on our complaint and agreed to redo all 4 albums and 3 large prints. Thank God we got our albums and large prints in time for the wedding.

In overall, Ally, Lucas, Esther and the rest of the MBG crew were awesome. We were treated like kings and queens during our short prewedding trip. Ally even prepared a bag of snacks for our stay in Gayana and assigned her staff to send us off the airport!

It was indeed an experience of a lifetime and we give MBG an A++ for the memories they have helped us engraved forever in our photos! If you are looking for awesome prewedding shoots, look no further. Engage Memories Bridal Gallery!
